I know, I know....I meant to post more pics from trash the dress; and I will...eventually.  The InStyle things and running around in a wedding dress was starting to give me a big head so I had to drop it down at a couple notches.  Just tryin' to keep it real.

I'm wearing:  shoes, clutch (thrift); button-down, skinnies (old navy); blazer (gap)

5 days of trashing

So we did two looks. This one is more of what I would have wanted---had I known better at age 22.  Country, simple, and chic is what I try strive for.

As the title says, I'll probably do a straight week of these pictures since there are so many.

And yes, my dress is thrift. :)

sunday obsessions: Maddy

Maddy has been one of my favorites for a long time.  Some of her blog is written in a different language so she could be a terrorist; and I'd still be drooling over her style.  If her writing is anything like her fashion choices, I know she's saying all the right things.
Check her out!

When refinery29 announced that oversized sweaters were a fall trend, I was ecstatic.  An opportunity to combine my two great loves:  clothing that doesn't fit me appropriately and menswear.

I have no idea why, but I love wearing guy sweaters; this has been an obsession since the 6th grade.

coming soon to a blog near you

It's been a crazy week so bear with me on my already late post.  But the wait will be so worth it!! The pictures from part 1 of Trash the Dress are amazing!!!
I'm surrounded my incredible people; what else can I say???

I actually wore this to work....last week I think.  The job front is going well; meeting so many wonderful people.  The only downside is that I can't ever really share the "victory" moments that keep in me mental health counseling.  Thanks, confidentiality.

I'm wearing:  blazer (urban outfitters); tank (express); necklace (h&m); jeans (old navy); shoes (target??)

In other news, two ever so dedicated readers spotted yours truly in the November issue of InStyle (pg. 62).  Special thanks to Rhoda and Sandra for keeping me in the loop.  I can't believe I'm in print--so awesomely weird.

sunday obsessions: trash the dress

"Trash the dress" is not a blog, but is my current obsession as we are trashing my wedding dress today. I'm super stoked; but after 5 years of being married, there is something to be said for the ever-changing person. I'm not the same person as I was at 22 (thankfully), nor is my sense of style (double grateful). So I'm working to add a few extras to make my former bride style a little more me.

I have since found wedding-like dresses that are a little more "me," but wanted to have artsy, formal pics in the original gown.  And of course, the handsome and ever so talented husband will debut as well.  Stay tuned.

I always get a little nervous when people buy me clothes as gifts.  It's such a kind gesture, but also a bold one.  But there is one person I'll never have to worry about:  the best friend.  She got me this sweater from Anthropologie a couple of Christmas' ago; it's the sweater that keeps on giving.  It's seen me through jobs, countless classes, and now life as professional.  I'm slightly smitten with it---and the gal pal who knows me best.

I'm wearing:  jeans (gap); sweater (anthro); heels (madden girl)

EBEW: DIY

0020

0040

0010

I typically avoid "DIY" because I'm not as skilled in the crafty department in spite of moments genius creativity.  I found this dress on clearance at Macy's a couple of years ago for my mom's wedding, and it was actually a cross between the two colors on my shoes:  beige meets sandstone, aka not a flattering color on me.  So I dyed it.
Using Rit Dye and two cycle washing cycles later, I now have a scarlet/wine colored dress.  I should warn you that it was a little more difficult because of the amount of polyester (I think) in the dress, but I was pleased.
Are you participating in Everybody Everywear?

I'm wearing:  shoes (thrifted target); trench (h&m); dress (calvin klein clearance--$50 or less at macys)

sunday obsessions: little ditties

Meet Brittany.  She left a comment on my blog earlier this week, stating that she was doing her first fashion post.  Like all of us who first start the fashion portions of blogs with outfits, I was expecting to see a trendy neophyte; but instead it was love at first sight.  She's only done two fashion posts, but I'm beyond obsessed with both.  It's so great having a muse who shares similar tastes as I do.

Yes, I have declared her muse/copycat worthy.

I think we should welcome her outfitting-posting-side-of-blogging and beg encourage her to keep doing so.

Read. Love. Follow.

To ease back into the remixing mindset, I changed up the shirt that I wore on my first day of work.  The shirt that can be worn with black or brown is always a favorite of mine.

In other really cool news, I met Antwone Fisher today.  If you haven't watched the movie titled
Antwone Fisher, starring Denzel Washington, you should.   Because he's a rockstar.  And his story is inspiring.  I posted the a few pics on twitter.  Amazing.

One boot, two ways.

It's a short post today, but the point is this:  I swear by boots, and these are new faves.  There from Kohl's; and if you dig, Kohl's is having their boot sale now.  So hit the stores.

to all the wonderful people who leave comments and send emails, these are for you.
I've been reading a lot more InStyle lately; and I'm currently loving their article/how-to on hemlines, which seems to be a shortie's frenemy.  I think this skirt is technically acceptable for my height; but they bared no influence when I bought it.  It was $2, a midi, and an awesome print---sold.  The article did suggest wearing a midi this length with oxfords....if I remember to remix this one, I'll try that.  Speaking of remixing, I think I'm about due for a fall 30x30

I'm wearing:  skirt, cardi, necklace, ring (thrift); shirt (gap); shoes (wanted via piperlime); belt (xxi)
